| Prologue: The Story of Cassandra Jasmine Houston 5 Swords “Prologue” tells the story of the early Cassandra Houston, the buxom author we fell in love with in “Rainy Day Confessions” and the many “Cassandra's Cops” books, to which this is a supplemental. Yet, this story fondly holds its own and tells us the heart-wrenching and often loving saga of a preteen Cassandra, throughout her life-course into adulthood. This story truly is the best piece of fiction that Crystal Ordonez has ever penned. The story begins with twelve year old Cassandra Houston watching a young child being killed by a hit and run in the streets of Chicago – Cass's first real experience with the city since being uprooted by her father Raymond from their small-town home in rural Texas. From there, we learn the reasonings behind older Cass's lack of children as Ordonez takes us through Cassandra's very first period and the hysterectomy that followed immediately thereafter. From hapless dates with slightly older boys to losing her virginity to a man who did not prefer her reasons of giving it to him, to the death of the only person Cass had in her life – her father – this story flawlessly tackles on one memorable moment after another. I guess my favorite scene in the story is when Cassandra first comes in contact with Sebastion Knight – one of my own personal and earliest characters. Crystal did me proud by offering the two fictional best friends the perfect chance encounter as the beginning of their lifelong relationship. From that point, it's a definite roller coaster of thrills, up to the fascinating ending, or should we say... the beginning. Crystal Ordonez pans a fascinating story of love, loss, life, and innocence in a tale that mixes qualities of young adult drama with the very adult oriented topics that she has learned to weave so well. Of anyone reading this and anyone who has ever read or even knows Crystal Ordonez, I take pride in the knowledge that I am the Crystalpedia. I've read nearly everything she's written, many times and rather closely. I've watched her bloom, grow, and mature into the stunning author that she is today. In return, she has watched the same of me. I am more proud of “Prologue: The Story of Cassandra Jasmine Houston” than of any previous piece she has ever written. I guarantee, at the very least, that when you have finished her story, you will have been greatly entertained. With any hope, you will feel the same I do of this tale, and you will come to know and love the character of Cassandra Houston – and all of the Cassandra's Cops characters – as well as I do. This is a story in the series NOT to be missed! "Prologue: The Story of Cassandra Jasmine Houston" can be found at www.lulu.com/crystalordonez |
