Social Disease:
The Reconciliation of a Gay American Male
BLURB
Author J L Foster bares more than his soul in this politically driven escapade of poetic freedom. Composed of four delicately structured
sections -
The Drowned World, Division of the Heart, Social Disease, and My Reconciliation - the author displays the mortal, and often
immortal, struggles of a gay American male living in today's society. Foster proudly and loudly speaks against the Bush administration
and the War in Iraq, he tells the tale of blossoming and continuing love between him and his life partner, and he embraces the fears
and questions that arise with the threshold of death. Political, religious, personal, and perhaps even crucial, this is a collection of poetry
like no other before it, and it is one that you will devour time upon time again. Sit down and bear witness to his
Social Disease.

Touch

I know it like it’s my own…
Your touch…
The way you hold me when I’m cold and naked…
The way you love me when I’m ashamed of my faults…
The way you take tenderness
In things that would otherwise be bitter and hard.
When you caress me…
When you kiss me…
When you promise you’ll never let me go…
You make me feel whole.
Complete.
You make me real,
No longer a puppet to the strings of life’s lies.
You cradle me like a child,
And you respect me like an elder.
You have faith in me.
You have belief in my dreams.
I know that when you touch me,
I have been touched by life.
I have been touched by love.
Please…
Love of my Life…
Touch me again…

Alright

Alright…
Alright…
Alright, Alright, Alright!
I did what they needed.
I said what they wanted.
Alright.
I played the games that they played.
I took the stakes that they made.
Alright.
I gave up some of my freedoms
For a place in their kingdom.
Alright.
I kept silent and blind
And locked the door to my mind.
Alright.
Alright.
Alright, Alright, Alright!
I turned the other shoulder
To prove that I was bolder.
And now that I am older,
I have run out of shoulders
And my tongue is even bolder.
My tolerance is over.
Alright.
Alright.
Alright, Alright, Alright!
I will no longer hold my tongue
Or flee my freedom on the run.
Alright.
I will no longer just stand by
And watch our leaders flat out lie.
Alright.
I will not support the war
That we fight on foreign shore.
And I’d hate to be a bore
But we cannot just ignore
That if we’d listened to Al Gore
We might not need that foreign shore.
Alright.
The solution to pollution
And the oil that we’re using
And the lives that we’re losing
And the money that we’re juicing
And the morals that we’re placing
On the hatred that we’re facing
Lie in the hands
Of the man
Who in the oval office
Stands
With his chin in the air
And his arrogance a flare
And a smile on his face.
Who cares of his disgrace?
His term is almost done.
It can all be undone.
It is time for a change
And we can all rearrange
The habits of this freedom land.
It is time to take a stand.
Alright.
Alright.
Alright, Alright, Alright!

It Is Time

It is time to take a stand.
It is time to take a stand.
It is time to take command.
It is time to take a stand.

It is time to take some action.
It is time for satisfaction.
It is time to take some action.
It is time to get a reaction.

It is time to take a stand.
It is time to take a stand.
It is time to own this land.
It is time to take a stand.

It is time to take conviction.
It is time to take admission.
It is time to take conviction.
It is time to take position.

It is time to take a stand.
It is time to take a stand.
It is time to lend a hand.
It is time to take a stand.

Hear My Song

For all the souls that I made weep,
I pray the Lord those souls to keep.
For all the hearts that I’ve made break,
I pray the Lord those souls to take.
For all the sorrows that I made grow,
I pray the Lord to help them go.
For all the pain that I’ve passed out,
I pray the Lord to make it stout.
For all the words that crossed my tongue,
I pray the Lord they be undone.
For all the times I’ve made amends,
I pray the Lord the trouble ends.
For all the rights that I’ve turned wrong,
I pray the Lord to hear my song.
