Hannah Moskowitz is an amazing figure: a sixteen-year-old writer who wrote this novella at age fourteen and seriously considered self-publishing and actively self-
marketing in person. Inspired by comic strips and cartoons of the deserted island scenario, Ms. Moskowitz sets up an intriguing situation in which a small number of
individuals arrive at one oddly-situated island, at infrequent intervals. Then she settles back and along with the reader observes the interactions and the interpersonal
dynamics of these “lost” individuals.

Her narrator is sixteen-year-old Jack of Florida, who out of early-morning sunrise boredom and unsettlement decides to take a boat ride with a stranger to a Key only
natives have ever heard of. He falls asleep on the trip and awakens to find the strange guy diving overboard-with the keys. Introduced to the residents already installed-
Gina, Asher, and Old Man-Jack quickly discovers that life has entered what seems to be an alternate dimension.

Ms. Moskowitz has quite a literary touch and readers will find themselves turning the pages quickly to discover what new solution Ash and Jack will consider, and whether
the next try will be successful in allowing them to escape an island which has overtones of “Hotel California,” into which one could check in but never leave.
