I can’t truly find words to encapsulate the power of this story. I literally cried-and cried-throughout. No Apologies is one of the most potent stories I’ve ever read. Set at
Pearl Harbor Dec. 6-7, 1941, it is the relationship of two sailors, Donnie and Jack, who’ve been friends since grade school.

One drunken moment on Saturday night results in Donnie kissing Jack, and the reaction is interpreted by Donnie as withdrawal. He’d rather die than lose Jack’s friendship,
and as the Japanese attack occurs early Sunday morning while Donnie is finding the words to apologise, he just may get his wish.

This is not the story to read on the bus or train on your morning commute, nor in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, if you are at all emotional. I can’t imagine any
reader not weeping through this story, reaching the final page, then beginning the story again.
